Ukrainian forces raise national flags over several villages in Russia's Kursk region

Ukrainian forces raised flags over the villages of Hornal and Guyevo in the Sudzhansky District of Russia's Kursk region ahead of Ukraine's National Flag Day. Historically, these areas belong to Ukrainian Slobozhanshchyna, reports the RUGBY TEAM Unmanned Systems Battalion of the 129th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade.
"On the occasion of Ukraine's National Flag Day, drone operators of the RUGBY TEAM Unmanned Systems Battalion of the 129th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade raised blue-and-yellow flags over the ethnic lands of Ukrainian Slobozhanshchyna. They now fly over Hornal and Huyevo as a symbol of resilience and as a reminder to the enemy: Ukraine always remembers and reclaims its own," the statement said.

Earlier, Ukraine's Defense Forces halted Russian advances and regained control of the village of Zelenyi Hai in the Donetsk region. Ukrainian flags are flying there again. Russian forces attempted to retake their positions but failed.
Kursk operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
In August 2024, following the launch of the operation, Ukraine's Defense Forces took control of nearly 100 settlements in the Kursk region. It took more than six months before Russian forces managed to reclaim any lost territory.
During this period, Russia suffered over 77,000 casualties, including killed and wounded. Moscow also involved North Korea in combat operations in the Kursk region. Ukraine captured two North Korean soldiers. Overall, North Korean mercenaries suffered at least 4,000 fatalities.
