Ukrainian troops have cleared a section of forest east of Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region of Russian forces, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

A Ukrainian brigade fighting in the northern Kharkiv region liberated approximately 10 square kilometers of forest northeast of Vovchanski Khutory.

The brigade reports that, since June 10, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have destroyed or driven out of the area three groups of Russian troops that had infiltrated the sector.

The ISW notes that the Russians have managed to infiltrate other parts of this area. Geolocated imagery indicates a possible Russian advance in the northeastern part of Vovchansk. The Russians may also have advanced north of Vovchanski Khutory and north of Zybyne.

The situation in this sector remains fluid: Ukrainian forces are counterattacking and clearing specific areas, while Russian forces continue to attempt to penetrate the territory.

Separately, the ISW reports that on October 5, Russian forces continued to advance toward Velykyi Burluk. Analysts did not observe any confirmed advances.

The Third Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine liberated Nove, Ridkodub, and Katerynivka in the Lyman sector.

Ukrainian defenders also regained control of Karpivka and Novomykhailivka, and over 250 Russians were taken prisoner.

The Third Army Corps' air defense forces shot down Russian reconnaissance drones en masse during Operation Vivaldi in the Donetsk region.

Meanwhile, the Russian troops reported to their command that they were holding positions that had already been taken by Ukrainian assault troops.
