Russian forces continue assault operations near Huliaipole in the Zaporizhzhia region, but Ukrainian defenders stopped them on the approaches to the town, said Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces.

He said the situation in this direction remains difficult. Russian troops keep pushing and try to dislodge Ukraine's Defense Forces, but there are no Russian units inside Huliaipole.

"They were stopped and blocked on the approaches to the town. Ukraine's Defense Forces are conducting countermeasures against enemy attacks. Search-and-strike operations continue to identify groups attempting to infiltrate the town. There are no clashes inside Huliaipole. The enemy did not enter the town," Voloshyn said.

Fighting near Huliaipole

On November 26, initial reports claimed that Russian forces broke through Ukrainian defenses near Huliaipole and advanced close to the town.

Voloshyn told RBC-Ukraine that the escalation followed a regrouping of Ukrainian units. One unit conducted an uncoordinated withdrawal, which exposed a flank. Russian forces exploited the gap and moved into that sector.

At the same time, the Center for Countering Disinformation said claims that Russian troops entered Huliaipole were false. Ukraine's Defense Forces destroyed the Russian soldiers who attempted to enter the town.
