Russian forces have begun deploying new Shahed-like BM-35 and BM-70 drones against Ukraine. Ukrainian interceptor drones are successfully combating the new UAVs, according to reports from the 425th Separate Assault Regiment Skelia and the Facebook page of the 42nd Separate Mechanized Brigade.
"Russian forces have equipped the strike BM-35 drones with jet engines to attack our logistics: transport, equipment, and supply routes. And they assured us that Ukrainian interceptor drones would not be able to catch up with such targets," the Skelia regiment stated.
It is noted that the drones' speed of over 350 km/h, low altitudes, and maneuvers indeed complicate interception.
At this time, reliable information on the technical specifications of the jet-powered modification of the BM-70 is unavailable. The standard version of the BM-70 is equipped with a piston engine and a propeller, has a flight speed of 200–220 km/h, and can carry a payload of up to 15 kg.
Russian jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can cover significant distances and reach the western regions of Ukraine. Their range depends on technical specifications, fuel capacity, and onboard equipment.
Ukrainian air defense is increasing the interception rate of Russian jet-powered strike drones. Currently, the average rate is nearly 60% for destroyed Geran-4 drones.
Furthermore, Russian forces have significantly upgraded the Gerbera unmanned aerial vehicles, which can now cover distances of up to 1,200 kilometers and carry an increased warhead.
