Ukrainian director becomes member of prestigious academy that selects Emmy winners

Ukrainian director and producer Volodymyr Mula has received new professional recognition in the United States. He has joined the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), the organization that presents the prestigious Emmy Awards each year, according to a post on the director's Instagram page.
Ukrainian filmmaker joins the U.S. television academy
The director became a Charter National Member of NATAS. He joined the organization through its new National Professional Membership program, created for professionals working in the television industry.
According to Mula, the new status will help him expand his professional network and create new opportunities for international collaboration.
"It is a great honor for me to join the professional community of some of the world's finest creators and continue contributing to the field of sports and documentary filmmaking. For me, filmmaking has always been about people, emotions, and stories that go far beyond the screen," he wrote.
The director also noted that new professional connections, knowledge sharing, and collaboration with colleagues from around the world should lead to new international projects and help amplify the truth about Ukraine on the global stage.
In addition, NATAS membership provides access to industry events, networking opportunities with international television professionals, and the chance to work on new documentary and narrative film projects.
Why the Ukrainian director is well known
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) brings together professionals from across the U.S. television industry. The organization is responsible for presenting the national Emmy Awards in a wide range of categories, including news, documentaries, sports programming, children's and family content, and technological innovation.
Volodymyr Mula has extensive experience working with international media outlets. He has collaborated with BBC, CBS, and CNA, and has covered major global events, including the Eurovision Song Contest, the 2014 FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro 2016, the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics, and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Mula has also directed several documentary films, including American Dream, YUKI, Football Nation, and Intercept Game.
In 2024, the filmmaker won a Sports Emmy Award for the documentary miniseries Football Must Go On, which tells the story of Ukrainian football club Shakhtar Donetsk.
