Ukrainian defenders capture over 100 Russian militants from Crimea
At least 101 Russian military personnel from the temporarily occupied Crimea have been taken prisoner by Ukraine, according to the Office of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
"At least 101 servicemen of the Russian Federation from occupied Crimea have been confirmed captured," the statement reads.
It is noted that the majority of them are likely Ukrainian citizens.
The Office of the President also reported that at least 1,657 soldiers of the Russian army from units stationed in occupied Crimea have been killed in the war. Of these, 1,107 were likely Ukrainian citizens.
However, the actual number of fatalities may be higher as Russia conceals the true extent of its losses.
Prisoner exchanges
As a reminder, yesterday, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, reported a preliminary agreement with Russia that prisoner exchanges in 2025 are expected to become systematic, with a priority on the return of severely ill and seriously wounded individuals.
Overall, in 2024, Ukraine conducted 11 exchanges and freed 1,358 citizens from Russian captivity.
