Ukraine returned 1,358 citizens from Russian captivity in 2024 - Intelligence
The intelligence service has provided the number of Ukrainians released from Russian captivity over the year. In 2024, 356 more citizens were returned to Ukraine than in 2023.
“The past year was not easy for us, but effective. 356 more people were released from captivity than in 2023,” said Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Defense Intelligence.
In total, Ukraine conducted 11 exchanges and released 1,358 citizens from Russian captivity in 2024.
Return of fallen defenders to Ukraine
The number of bodies of fallen defenders returned to Ukraine has increased.
“During the negotiations, we managed to agree on the return of three times the number of bodies of our defenders,” said deputy head of the Coordination Center Andrii Yusov.
According to him, this means that the search and negotiations are becoming more successful.
'All for all' exchange between Ukraine and Russia
Ukraine has long been making every effort to exchange prisoners in the “all for all” format. But Russia has been preventing it.
As early as 2023, the head of the DIU, Kyrylo Budanov, said that there were certain obstacles on the part of Russia to the exchange of prisoners “all for all.”
If Ukraine and Russia agree on an “all for all” prisoner exchange, it will not happen in one day.
