Ukrainian border guards receive Metal Shark boats from US: What is known
The United States of America has transferred Metal Shark speedboats to the Maritime Border Guard Service of Ukraine. They are already being used to protect maritime and river sections of the border, according to the State Border Guard Service.
According to the department, the boats are equipped with modern navigation, control, automatic firefighting systems, and video surveillance cameras, making them maneuverable, fast, and ergonomic.
Border guards are already using them on maritime and river sections of the border for protection and defense. They are also involved in ensuring the security of the maritime corridor in the Black Sea.
It's worth noting that the exact type of boats is not specified, but judging from published photos, Ukraine has received the Metal Shark 45 Defiant. These boats have a fully aluminum construction, with a hull length of 13.8 meters and a width of 4.6 meters. They are capable of speeds ranging from 35 to 40 knots.
In April of this year, the Ministry of Defense of Estonia announced the transfer of two patrol boats, R01 Roland and R02 Risto, to Ukraine in coordination with Denmark.
Later, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy, Dmytro Pletenchuk, mentioned that the crews of the mine hunters Chernihiv and Cherkasy, which Ukraine received from Britain, have already undergone training and are in active service.
