A powerful fire broke out at the oil terminal in the port of Ust-Luga in Russia’s Leningrad region following an attack by Ukrainian forces, according to CyberBoroshno and Dnipro Osint.

OSINT analysts released a video showing thick black smoke rising above the Russian port of Ust-Luga. The footage also shows a large fire.

The Dnipro Osint channel additionally published photos of the blaze taken directly at the port. The scale of the fire is significant.

OSINT experts believe this was one of the most effective attacks on Russia’s port infrastructure since the start of the war.

Port of Ust-Luga

The port of Ust-Luga is one of Russia’s key maritime transport hubs on the Baltic Sea. It is located in Luga Bay in the Gulf of Finland and began operations in 2001.

Within a relatively short time, the port grew into the largest in the Baltic and one of the biggest in Russia in terms of cargo turnover. Its development was accompanied by the creation of extensive infrastructure, including rail connections, terminals, and logistics complexes.

The port’s primary role is the export of raw materials. Oil, petroleum products, coal, gas, and other cargo pass through Ust-Luga, with specialized terminals built for these purposes.

Following the introduction of international sanctions, the importance of Ust-Luga has increased even further. The port has become one of the main channels for exporting Russian energy resources while bypassing restrictions and redirecting trade toward Asian countries such as China and India.

Earlier today, March 25, overnight, fighters from the SBU’s Alpha special operations unit, together with the Unmanned Systems Forces, Special Operations Forces, Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR), and the State Border Guard Service, carried out a drone strike on the port of Ust-Luga.

The drones flew approximately 900 kilometers, targeting oil loading facilities and storage tanks containing oil and petroleum products.
