Ukrainian Armed Forces withdraw from three settlements in Donetsk region
The Ukrainian military withdrew west of the settlements of Berdychi, Semenivka, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. This was done to save the lives of the personnel, states Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi.
According to the chief, Russian troops are trying to develop an offensive west of Avdiivka and Maryinka with up to four brigades. Their goal is to break through to Pokrovsk and Kurakhove in the Donetsk region.
"The Ukrainian Defense Forces units, preserving the lives and health of our defenders, have moved to new frontiers west of Berdychi, Semenivka and Novomykhailivka," he said.
Syrskyi emphasized that although the Russians have achieved some tactical success in these areas, they have not been able to gain an operational advantage.
"Ukrainian troops inflict maximum losses on the enemy, both in personnel and military equipment. To strengthen defense in these areas and replace the units that suffered losses, brigades that have regained combat capability are being redeployed," added the chief.
Situation in the area of Avdiivka
After capturing the remnants of Avdiivka earlier this year, the Russians continued to advance, putting pressure on the Ukrainian military with artillery and air power. According to Nazar Voloshyn, spokesperson for the Khortytsia military unit, Russians are storming Ukrainian positions in the Avdiivka sector around the clock.
Currently, the hottest battles are taking place for the village of Ocheretyne. According to Voloshyn, the Russian army is trying to break through the Ukrainian defense with four brigades. The Ukrainian Armed Forces, for their part, are engaging forces and means from the reserve.
