Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff identifies hottest frontline areas
Since the beginning of the day on May 20, the situation at the front in Ukraine has escalated. The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to focus their main efforts on a rebuff to the Russian invaders, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In particular, Russian troops fired 533 times at Ukrainian positions and used more than 50 kamikaze drones. So far, there have been more than 30 combat engagements, one missile and one air strike each.
Frontline situation
In the Kharkiv sector, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are repelling Russian attacks in the direction of Starytsia village. "The situation is under control. In addition, our units have taken measures to strengthen defensive borders and positions in certain areas," the statement says.
According to updated data, over the past day, the total Russian losses in this area amounted to 261 invaders and 40 units of weapons and military equipment. One tank, an artillery system, eight vehicles special equipment, and 13 UAVs were destroyed. In addition, two tanks, one armored combat vehicle, eight artillery systems, and six vehicles were damaged.
In the Kupiansk sector, the Ukrainian Armed Forces successfully repelled a Russian attack in the direction of Synkivka. In turn, Ukrainian troops are conducting assault operations in some areas. The situation is under control.
In the Siversk sector, the number of Russian attacks slightly decreased compared to the previous day. Two combat engagements are currently underway. The Russian invaders are trying to push Ukrainian troops out of the area of Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region. Over the past day, the Russian occupiers lost 99 people in the wounded and killed and 21 units of weapons and military equipment. In particular, two tanks, eight armored combat vehicles, and an anti-aircraft missile system were destroyed.
In the Kramatorsk sector, two Russian attempts to advance in the areas of Ivanivske and Andriivka were repelled. Two more firefights are ongoing near Klishchiivka. "The enemy is not successful. The situation is under control," the statement says.
The situation is currently tense in the Pokrovsk sector. Russia has attacked Ukrainian troops' positions 12 times since the beginning of the day. Fighting continues in the areas of Yevhenivka, Lozova, Sokol, Novopokrovske, and Novoselivka Persha. "The situation is tense southwest of Ocheretyne. Measures are being taken to stabilize the situation," the General Staff says.
Today, Russia's losses in the Pokrovsk sector have been confirmed in the amount of 45 servicemen and five armored combat vehicles. According to the updated data, the Russian invaders lost a total of 350 people killed and wounded, as well as 20 pieces of military equipment on the last day.
Three Russian attacks near Krasnohorivka and Novomykhailivka continue in the Kurakhove sector. The situation is under control. Two Russian attacks have already been successfully repelled in the areas of Vodiane and Krasnohorivka.
In the Vremivsk sector, the Russian occupants have already made two attempts to advance near Staromaiorske. One of them was repelled, and another battle is ongoing. No positions were lost.
In the Prydniprovsk sector, a firefight continues near Krynky. "Ukrainian troops repelled another Russian attack today. The enemy was not successful," the General Staff reports.
Russian losses
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 140 combat engagements took place over the past day, Russia launched five missile attacks using six missiles, downed 79 UAVs during 55 air strikes, and used 1066 kamikaze drones, including 82 Shahed and Lancet UAVs. The Russian invaders fired 4056 times at the positions of Ukrainian troops and civilian settlements using various types of weapons, including 118 attacks from multiple launch rocket systems.
Overall, the total Russian losses amounted to about 1400 people over the past day. Russia also lost 14 tanks, 35 armored combat vehicles, 50 artillery systems, two MLRS, four air defense systems, 81 operational and tactical UAVs, a missile, one ship, 60 vehicles, and two units of special equipment.
