Ukrainian Air Force loses Su-27 in drone attack, pilot ejects safely

The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost a Su-27 fighter jet today, April 28, while repelling a drone attack. A special commission has been set up to investigate the cause of the incident, according to the Air Force.
“On the morning of April 28, 2025, during a complex combat mission to provide air support for troops and repel an air attack by enemy strike UAVs, a Su-27 fighter jet of the Air Force was lost. The causes of the incident are being investigated by a specially created commission that has already begun its work,” the Air Force wrote.
The Su-27 pilot successfully ejected, after which he was taken to a medical facility. Currently, his life and health are not in danger, his condition is stable.
As RBC-Ukraine previously reported, 26-year-old Ukrainian pilot Pavlo Ivanov was killed in April while flying an F-16 mission.
Ukraine lost another F-16 in August 2024. Experienced pilot Oleksii Mes (“Moonfish”) was killed while repelling a massive attack. Read more about him in the RBC-Ukraine article.
