Fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces continues in urban areas in Kurakhove, Toretsk, and Chasiv Yar, Donetsk region. Russia has changed its tactics and is trying to block the logistics of the Ukrainian forces instead of frontal assaults, according to Nazar Voloshyn, a spokesman for the Khortytsia military unit.

“As for the tactics of assaults, the enemy is trying to break through to these settlements, in some of them they are already engaged in urban battles. They are fighting because it is an urban area and in order to avoid frontal assaults, the occupants have abandoned such tactics as assaulting the settlements head-on,” said Voloshyn.

He adds Russia is trying to block transportation arteries and cut off the logistics of Ukrainian soldiers.

Ukraine frontline

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 234 combat clashes were recorded along the frontline over the past day, Dec. 22. In the Kurakhove sector, the Defense Forces repelled 30 attacks in the areas of Sontsivka, Stari Terny, Kurakhove, Yasenove, Dachne and in the direction of Andriivka.

According to Ukraine's Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, the most difficult situation is in the Pokrovsk and Kurakhove sectors.

Earlier, the media reported that the Russian army may be preparing an offensive on Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region, which could be the culmination of the Russian offensive in this area.
