Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov arrives in Saudi Arabia amid talks between the US and Russia. Ukrainian officials are waiting for the outcome of the meeting, according to The Guardian and Reuters.
Saudi state television reported on Monday that Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov had arrived in Saudi Arabia.
His visit comes amid active talks between US and Russian representatives aimed at making progress toward a broad ceasefire in Ukraine.
A senior Ukrainian official confirmed to the Agence France-Presse (AFP) that Ukrainian officials are looking forward to meeting with their American counterparts to continue discussing a possible ceasefire.
The final decision depends on the outcome of the ongoing negotiations between the US and Russia.
The US delegation at the talks in Riyadh is seeking to conclude an agreement with Russia and Ukraine on a ceasefire in the Black Sea to ensure free navigation.
After meeting with Ukraine on March 23, the US is holding talks with Russia today.
Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the key topic of the talks would be the “Black Sea initiative” concerning the safety of navigation in the Black Sea. He also added that Vladimir Putin would receive reports on the course of the consultations and then hold an international call.
