Ukraine unveils Tryzub: Laser weapon capable of downing drones from 5 km

The Tryzub laser weapon was presented in Ukraine for the first time. The system is capable of destroying drones and aircraft at a distance of up to 5000 meters, according to the commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, Vadym Sukharevskyi.
The video was released during the conference “European Defense Industry: Prospects for Cooperation with the Ukrainian Defense Industry”.
It is stated that the Ukrainian laser can destroy:
- attack drones, bombs, cruise and ballistic missiles at a distance of up to 3000 meters
- helicopters, airplanes and reconnaissance drones at a distance of up to 5000 meters.
In addition, as it turned out, the laser can be used to blind drones, cruise missiles, helicopters, and airplanes at a distance of up to 10,000 meters.
During the tests, the laser was also demonstrated on a ground target and used to blind the camera of a fiber-optic FPV drone.
Judging by the video, although the laser system is equipped with an optoelectronic station, the targeting is done manually with a joystick, not automatically. However, it seems that the complex is still at the stage of a functional prototype, so this feature is likely to be added later.
Last December, Sukharevsky said that Ukraine has a laser weapon called Tryzub. At the time, he emphasized that it could shoot down aircraft at a distance of more than 2 kilometers.
Later, the Ukrainian Armed Forces announced that they had tested a new laser weapon. It was noteworthy that this unit can melt metal.
