Russian forces have been striking Ukraine's energy infrastructure since this morning, October 16. The attacks damaged facilities in Kyiv and five regions, according to Ukraine's Ministry of Energy.

"Since early morning and throughout the day, Russian forces have continued to strike energy facilities, launching waves of attacks using drones," the ministry said.

Facilities in Kyiv, Kyiv region, Kharkiv region, Rivne region, Volyn region, and Odesa region came under attack. The damage caused by the strikes triggered emergency power outages.

"As usual, the most difficult situation is in frontline areas and regions bordering Russia. The enemy continues to strike energy infrastructure there every day and in a systematic manner," the ministry added.

The ministry also noted that energy workers had restored electricity to more than 1 million consumers during the day. Repair work is continuing wherever the security situation allows.

Attacks on energy infrastructure

Russia resumed large-scale attacks on Ukraine's energy facilities in late September.

Earlier this week, during a massive attack, Russian forces struck all three of Kyiv's thermal power plants at once.

This happened just days after US President Donald Trump announced an "energy ceasefire" between Ukraine and Russia.
