Ukraine is set to receive six self-propelled artillery units, known as Caesar, from France in the coming weeks, according to Ukraine's Minister of Defense, Rustem Umerov.

According to Umerov, during a phone call with the French Minister of Defense, Sébastien Lecornu, it was conveyed that France would deliver 6 Caesar units in the nearest weeks. Additionally, the French politician announced that Paris could manufacture an additional 72 self-propelled artillery units for Ukraine in 2024.

About Caesar

Caesar is a 155mm self-propelled artillery unit developed and produced by the French company Nexter. It has been supplied to Ukraine since 2022, with approximately 20 units known to be in the inventory of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The artillery system has an effective firing range of up to 42 kilometers and can utilize the full range of NATO 155mm projectiles, including cluster rounds. Its firing rate is 6 rounds per minute, and it features the FAST-Hit automated fire control system with GPS integration.

Supply and use of Caesar in Ukraine

Ukraine has entered into several contracts with French defense companies, one of which pertains to additional Caesar self-propelled artillery units.

It was later revealed that France tripled the production of Caesar units, potentially providing Ukraine with a significantly larger number of these howitzers.

Recently, the Ukrainian Airborne Assault Forces demonstrated the destruction of Russian military forces using the Caesar self-propelled artillery units.
