Ukraine to invite Brazil to Global Peace Summit
Ukraine will invite Brazil and other Global South countries to the Global Peace Summit, dedicated to discussing the Ukrainian peace formula for ending the war. This information was reported by the head of the Office of the President, Andriy Yermak, in an interview with CNN Brazil.
Under the instructions of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working on organizing the first International Peace Summit to discuss the Ukrainian peace formula.
"We believe that the summit would not be complete without the participation of Global South countries," said Yermak. He noted that Brazil, India, China, Saudi Arabia, and African countries should be among the key states involved in the discussion.
Yermak did not provide an approximate date or location for the summit, saying that it would take place soon in a neutral venue convenient for representatives from different countries.
According to him, the Ukrainian government wants to see Brazil as one of the leaders in implementing the peace plan.
"Ukraine is very interested in developing relations with Brazil. Ukraine strongly desires a strategic partnership with Brazil. And we are ready to do everything in our power to achieve this goal," he said.
In particular, the head of the Office of the President believes that Brazil can be one of the powerful leaders in addressing environmental security issues.
Global Peace Summit
Ukraine and its allies plan to hold a peace formula summit with the participation of leaders from other countries, excluding Russia. Denmark and Sweden have already expressed their willingness to host the summit.
Zelenskyy presented the Ukrainian peace formula in November 2022. The peace plan consists of 10 points and includes the restoration of Ukrainian control over its territory, the return of prisoners, and the prosecution of war criminals.
The Ukrainian peace formula also includes guarantees for radiation, nuclear, food, and energy security.
Brazil's stance
Initially, the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, took a somewhat neutral position regarding Russia's war against Ukraine. He claimed that the Ukrainian government should have refrained from joining NATO and the EU.
In early 2023, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva expressed his desire to act as a mediator for establishing peace between Ukraine and Russia. And in June, he condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Zelenskyy was supposed to meet with da Silva during the G7 summit, but the meeting did not take place due to scheduling conflicts among the leaders. Later, the President of Ukraine stated that he is interested in a meeting with da Silva and is even willing to travel to Latin America.
