The Ukrainian national athletics team triumphed at the 2026 World Indoor Championships. Despite a minimal squad of only five athletes, the “blue and yellow” demonstrated phenomenal efficiency.
According to the official World Athletics website, all of Ukraine’s medals came in a single discipline – the high jump.
Triumph in the heights
The standout star was once again Yaroslava Mahuchikh, who confirmed her status as the world’s best by winning her fourth career medal at the indoor world championships. Her victory in Toruń made Mahuchikh the most decorated Ukrainian athlete in the history of World Indoor Championships, completing a full set of medals and securing her title as a two-time world champion (2022, 2026).
Yuliia Levchenko accompanied Mahuchikh on the podium, taking the silver medal.

The real sensation was Oleh Doroshchuk. He brought the country its first men’s gold in 12 years, returning Ukraine to the elite of world high jumping.

Record performances over the decade
This championship was a landmark for Ukraine for several reasons:
-
Best finish in 20 years: 4th place in the world – the highest result since the 2006 World Championships, where Ukraine was third.
-
Medal haul: three medals (2 golds and 1 silver) – a quantitative record for the past 12 years (at the 2014 WC, there were two silvers and one bronze).
-
Efficiency: of the five athletes entered, three returned home with medals.
The debutants in the 60m hurdles, Oleh Kukota and Dmytro Bahinskyi, did not win medals, finishing their competitions at the qualification stage.
