The Ukrainian Defense Forces have hit the infrastructure of the Russian military airfield Engels-2 again. Tu-95MS and Tu-160 aircraft of the 22nd Heavy Bomber Division of Russia are based there, according to the 14th Separate Regiment of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to preliminary data, as a result of the attack, tanks with rare aviation fuel for Tu-160 bombers caught fire on the territory of the Kristal oil depot. These are the aircraft used by Russia to terrorize the civilians in Ukraine.

The military noted that the several-day comprehensive operation to reduce the capabilities of Russia's strategic aviation is over.

“We are doing everything possible to ensure that Engels fire brigades, which have just extinguished the flames after the previous strike, are not left without work in the face of an increasingly difficult economic situation in Russia,” the statement said.

Russia uses Ukrainian Tu-160s

On the morning of Sunday, November 17, 2024, Russia launched a large-scale attack on the territory of Ukraine. During the attack, Russia launched over 200 air targets.

Later it became known that this was the first time in a long time that Russia had raised Tu-160 bombers. Russia probably has a problem with cruise missile carriers.

Strike on Russian oil depot in Engels

On the night of January 8, explosions were heard in the Russian city of Engels, and local authorities and residents spoke of a drone attack and air defense. At the same time, it became known that a fire broke out at an oil depot near the city of Engels.

On the same day, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the attack on the oil depot in Engels. According to the General Staff, the Kristall Oil Storage Facility was attacked. It was this tank farm that provided fuel to the Engels-2 military airfield.

But on January 3, a report by the US Institute for the Study of War cited a Russian insider source as saying that a fire at the Engels oil depot destroyed 3 fuel tanks containing 120,000 cubic meters of fuel and damaged six additional fuel tanks.

On the night of January 14, several Russian regions were attacked by drones. Read more about this in RBC-Ukraine's report.
