Ukraine signs contract with Rheinmetall for 155-mm shell supplies
The Defense Procurement Agency of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has signed a contract with the German defense concern Rheinmetall. Ammunition will be supplied to Ukrainian defenders, according to the Defense Procurement Agency.
The Agency noted that a contract with Rheinmetall for the supply of 155-mm artillery shells was signed in December.
"For the Agency, it is important to expand direct contracting with leading global arms manufacturers for each critical category, as this increases the reliability of supplies. We sincerely thank Rheinmetall for their contribution to ensuring the Armed Forces of Ukraine," said Marina Bezrukova, Director of the Defense Procurement Agency.
The ammunition deliveries are scheduled for the first half of 2025. They are compatible with most 155-mm guns in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Shells for Ukraine
It should be recalled that Western partners have provided Ukraine with a large amount of artillery that uses 155-mm shells. However, only recently has the country received licenses to produce such shells.
In particular, on August 23, it was announced that the Norwegian-Finnish company Nammo had granted Ukraine a license to produce 155-mm ammunition.
Another license for shell production was granted to Ukraine by the company KNDS/Nexter.
