Ukrainian forces have for the first time showcased the operation of the Barracuda naval drone, which works alongside other unmanned systems to strike Russian positions, according to the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The video shows the Barracuda kamikaze drone stealthily approaching an abandoned vessel that Russian forces use as an observation post before striking it.

A crewless surface vessel equipped with a launcher for unguided rockets then joins the operation. It attacks a stretch of coastline where, according to the military, enemy shelters are located.

The next phase involves the launch of reconnaissance and FPV drones from a maritime UAV carrier. Within minutes, they detect concealed enemy positions, which are then targeted with precision strikes.

The Ukrainian Navy said that the coordinated use of multiple types of unmanned systems makes it possible to detect and engage enemy forces more effectively.

"Watch the Barracuda's multi-layered strike system in action," the Ukrainian Navy said in a statement.

Earlier, Ukraine's military intelligence agency (HUR) said it was working on a new system for naval drones that would not only destroy enemy targets but also detain sanctioned vessels in the Black Sea and escort them to port for confiscation.

According to a HUR unit commander with the call sign "Deviatyi" (Ninth), the new concept is based on the upgraded Katran multi-purpose naval drone.
