Russian president Vladimir Putin's claim that Russian forces have captured the city of Kostiantynivka in Ukraine's Donetsk region is false. The city remains under the control of the Defense Forces, the spokesperson for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Major Andrii Kovaliov told RBC-Ukraine.

"The information circulated in Ukrainian media regarding Putin's statement that Russian troops allegedly occupied the settlement of Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region is not true," Kovaliov said.

He noted that, according to the operational situation displayed in the Armed Forces' Dzvin command and control system and the DELTA battlefield management system, Kostiantynivka remains under the control of Ukraine's Defense Forces.

Military units and formations of the East Operational Group's 19th Army Corps continue conducting defensive operations along designated lines within the city and on its approaches.

The enemy continues trying to seize Kostiantynivka.

There have been cases of small infantry groups (one to three troops) infiltrating deep into Ukrainian battle formations. Counter-sabotage operations are ongoing in the city. The Russian troops are being detected and eliminated.

During July, the enemy carried out 11 assault operations in the Kostiantynivka sector, but failed to achieve any success.

Instead, the enemy has once again resorted to spreading outright disinformation and fake claims through its highest-ranking officials.

"Ukrainian defenders continue to hold their positions along designated lines. The situation remains difficult but is under the control of Ukraine's Defense Forces," the General Staff spokesperson added.

The East Operational Group also confirmed that Putin's statement is yet another example of lies and a cynical attempt by Russia's leadership to fabricate at least some successes and justify the failure of its operational and strategic plans, as well as the disproportionately heavy personnel losses suffered by the Russian army.

"Kostiantynivka is controlled by units of Ukraine's Defense Forces. Continuous combat engagements are ongoing in parts of the city. Russian attempts to infiltrate the city are being detected, the occupiers are being eliminated, and fire strikes are being carried out against the invaders' logistics routes and troop concentration areas," the military said.

Putin's false claim

Yesterday, July 3, Russian leader Vladimir Putin claimed that Russian forces had captured the city of Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region.

He asserted that "with the capture of Kostiantynivka," only the "Sloviansk-Kramatorsk line" remained.

However, a look at the DeepState map shows that there has been no capture of Kostiantynivka. According to the map, Russian forces are located near the city but have not taken control of it.
