World record holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh claimed her third consecutive international victory in women's high jump since the start of the outdoor season, according to the official competition results.

Nerves at 1.97m and Mahuchikh's triumph

Yaroslava Mahuchikh and decorated Australian athlete Eleanor Patterson skipped the opening heights and entered the competition at 1.90 meters, which both cleared on their first attempt.

The Ukrainian then passed on 1.93m and once again showed her class at 1.95m, clearing it on her first try, while her rivals needed additional attempts.

The real drama unfolded at 1.97m. Mahuchikh failed on her first two attempts. The situation became critical because her main rival, Angelina Topić, passed on that height, strategically moving the bar higher.

However, on her third and final attempt, Yaroslava cleared the bar, securing first place.

Already guaranteed victory, Mahuchikh attempted 2.01m, but was unable to clear it.

"I jumped 1.97m. I think it was a good attempt. I know I can jump higher. It is always different competing outside a stadium. I saw many Ukrainians, which was very nice and heartwarming for me," Yaroslava said after the competition.

How Iryna Herashchenko and other rivals performed

Two Ukrainians competed in Zagreb. For Iryna Herashchenko, the competition was less successful. She confidently cleared 1.75m, 1.80m, and 1.85m on her first attempts.

However, the bar at 1.90m proved too difficult, and she finished the competition in ninth place.

It is also worth noting the performance of Guinean athlete Fatoumata Binta Diallo, who sensationally cleared 1.93m to set a new national record for her country.
