The Security Service of Ukraine has detained an agent who was transmitting coordinates of Ukrainian checkpoints and military routes to the enemy. The traitor was operating in the north of the country and was attempting to assist Russian forces, according to the official Telegram channel of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU).

Counterintelligence of the SSU uncovered yet another agent of the GRU (Russian spy agency - ed.) who was collecting intelligence on the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in northern Ukraine.

What happens

According to the investigation, a 42-year-old resident of the Chernihiv region was cooperating with Russian military intelligence and was transmitting coordinates of checkpoints, command-observation posts, and logistical centers of the Ukrainian military.

The Russian spy also attempted to identify routes used for the movement of military equipment.

The man was looking for "easy money" in pro-Russian Telegram channels. After being recruited, he personally surveyed border areas and recorded the positions of Ukrainian defenders using his mobile phone.

The Security Service of Ukraine documented his activities, conducted searches, and seized the equipment he used to transmit data to the Russian representatives.

What he faces

The Russian agent has been charged under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - high treason under martial law. The suspect is currently in custody.

He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The Security Service also conducted additional measures to secure the positions of Ukraine's Defense Forces.

RBC-Ukraine previously reported that the SSU had recently detained another Russian agent who was transmitting coordinates of military hospitals and other medical facilities in the Poltava region.
