On the night of October 15, the Ukrainian Navy struck a Russian airfield in the Voronezh region. Six Su-34M bombers were destroyed, according to the Ukrainian Navy.
The strike was carried out using the Neptune coastal missile system against the Borisoglebsk military airfield.
In addition to the aircraft, equipment used to support aviation operations was destroyed. Further explosions and a fire were recorded at the airfield. The Ukrainian Navy says the information is still being verified.
Why the Su-34M is dangerous
The Su-34M can carry several guided and high-explosive aerial bombs at once, as well as various types of missiles. It is one of the main aircraft used by Russian forces to strike Ukraine’s Defense Forces positions and frontline settlements with guided aerial bombs.
The Ukrainian Navy notes that destroying these aircraft weakens the enemy’s aviation capabilities. As a result, according to the Navy, Russian tactical aviation will operate less frequently in the relevant areas of the front.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine would resume strikes on Russian oil refineries.
According to him, the ban on such strikes has been lifted.
As RBC-Ukraine reported, US intelligence threatened to halt intelligence sharing if Ukraine continued attacking Russian energy facilities.
The Washington Post reported this on Monday, October 12.
