Ukraine's National Guard unveils new tactics against FPV drones

Ukrainian forces are using unconventional engineering solutions to protect their military vehicles from Russian FPV drones, National Guard Commander Oleksandr Pivnenko said.
"Warfare changes more than just tactics. It changes the very appearance of military equipment. What might have looked like props from a post-apocalyptic movie just a few years ago has now become part of the real battlefield," Pivnenko said.
The general explained that the military's response to the widespread use of FPV attack drones includes mesh cages, additional protective structures, camouflage, and other unconventional engineering solutions.
He said each of these protective measures is designed to improve the survivability of military vehicles and give crews a better chance of completing their missions and returning alive.

"Modern warfare is constant adaptation. The winner is the one who learns faster, implements new solutions, and outpaces the enemy in technology and tactics," the National Guard commander said.
Earlier, Ukraine's State Special Transport Service reported that since the beginning of 2026, its specialists have built more than 1,184 kilometers of anti-drone protection along strategically important logistics routes.
RBC-Ukraine also previously reported that Ukrainian armored vehicles have demonstrated high effectiveness in some of the fiercest combat zones. Their armored capsules are capable of withstanding strikes from kamikaze drones and heavy machine-gun fire, providing reliable protection for their crews.
