Thanks to the offensive actions, rangers of the 6th Special Operations Forces Regiment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces took control of the settlement in Russia's Kursk region, the press service of the Special Operations Forces reports.
"Before this, our artillery worked. Later, the Special Operations Forces soldiers entered the village, took control of it, and cleared it as part of special operations in this area," the statement says.
It turned out that, alongside the Russian military, North Korean troops also held the village, the Ukrainian military added.
Ukraine's Armed Forces operation in Kursk region
The Ukrainian Armed Forces began a combat operation in the Kursk region on August 6, seizing over 1,000 square kilometers of territories. Later, the Russian army, with the help of North Korean forces, managed to regain some of the territory.
According to the Razumkov Center, most Ukrainians (58%) supported the operation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Respondents were asked how they felt about Ukrainian troops engaging in combat not only on Ukrainian territory but also in Russia. 20% of respondents had a negative view of this, 7% were indifferent, and 16% were undecided.
According to the Levada Center, the combat operation of Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region became the main event for Russian residents in 2024.
In Ukraine, the Special Operations Forces have been a separate branch of the Armed Forces of Ukraine since 2016. They have distinguished themselves in the Russia-Ukrainian war, demonstrating high professionalism and combat readiness.
