Construction of the first anti-drone defense line around Kharkiv is currently underway. It will form part of an experimental project aimed at countering fiber-optic drones, according to a statement by Oleh Syniehubov, Kharkiv Regional Military Administration chief, during a national telethon live broadcast.

According to Syniehubov, the project is being implemented on the basis of one of the existing structures.

The regional budget has already allocated 7 million hryvnias (156 215,50 US dollars) for the construction of the first defense line.

"We have already allocated the first 7 million hryvnias from the regional budget to create the first line of defense. It will be aimed at countering fiber-optic drones. We expect results within three weeks," the regional administration chief said.

If the experiment proves effective, the anti-drone protection system will be expanded to the most vulnerable areas.

"We will then scale the project to the most dangerous sections," Syniehubov added.

Anti-drone nets began to be installed on the outskirts of Kharkiv in late June amid an increase in Russian drone attacks.

By the end of July, Syniehubov announced the next stage of the city's defense plan — the creation of a protective dome over Kharkiv designed to counter fiber-optic FPV drones.
