Ukraine's defense intelligence launched long-range UAV strikes against a drone manufacturing facility in the Kaluga region of Russia, with production operations concealed at a different factory, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing its sources.

On the evening of March 12, Ukraine's defense intelligence UAVs targeted the drone production site in the village of Obukhovo in the Dzerzhinsky district of Kaluga region. The assembly lines for drones were located at the Kaluga Cement plant.

Local residents were the first to report the powerful explosions and subsequent fire at the plant on social media, with comments like: "this is just hell," "two huge explosions," and "there was a big bang at the factory."

Witnesses also posted videos of the strike and the intense fire at the facility. Kaluga local public groups reported debris falling and fires in the industrial buildings.

Due to the drone strike, the "Carpet" plan was initiated at the Kaluga airport, and all flights were canceled from 09:00 p.m. on March 12 until 06:00 a.m. on March 13.

The governor of Kaluga region confirmed the night attack on the region in the morning, reporting hits on industrial facilities, as well as communication and energy infrastructure.

Attacks on Russian facilities

Ukraine's intelligence and defense forces have conducted numerous strikes on facilities in Russia and on occupied Ukrainian territories. These targets have included oil depots, oil refineries, defense factories, and airfields.

For example, on the night of March 8, Ukraine's intelligence drones attacked the Kirishinefteorgsintez oil refinery in Russia's Leningrad region. At least one of the facility's tanks was damaged.

Andriy Kovalenko, Head of Ukraine's Center for Countering Disinformation, noted that this is one of Russia’s largest oil refineries.
