Ukraine's General Staff confirms strike on one of Russia's largest oil refineries

Last night, the Defense Forces of Ukraine struck the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in Yaroslavl, Yaroslavl region, Russia, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
A fire broke out on the territory of the enemy facility as a result of the attack.
The following units were involved in carrying out the new operation this time:
- Deep Strike units of the Special Operations Forces;
- Unmanned Systems Forces;
- Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasizes that the extent of the damage is currently being determined and will be announced later.
"Slavneft-YANOS is one of the largest oil refineries in Russia and is part of PJSC Slavneft," the military explains.
They also point out that the refinery's capacity reaches about 15 million tons of oil per year.
The refinery has a full oil processing cycle and produces a wide range of petroleum products, including:
- Gasoline;
- Diesel and jet fuel;
- Fuel oil;
- Bitumen;
- Lubricants and other products.
The facility operates to meet the needs of the Russian troops in the war against Ukraine.
Ukraine's attacks on Russian oil refineries
On August 26, following a Ukrainian drone attack, the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez refinery (NORSI) in the city of Kstovo halted crude oil processing.
Ukrainian drones also hit the Afipsky oil refinery in Russia's Krasnodar region. As a result of the attack, the facility's combined gas and gas condensate processing unit caught fire.
Another attack occurred overnight on August 22 in Russia's Samara region. Drones struck the Novokuibyshevsk oil refinery.
