Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha held a phone conversation with Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. Among other topics, they discussed security in the Black Sea, according to Sybiha's post on X.

According to the Ukrainian minister, he discussed the bilateral agenda, the situation on the battlefield, security in the Black Sea, the situation in Syria, and the Middle East with his Turkish counterpart.

"We agreed on coordinated efforts to further strengthen our strategic partnership," Sybiha noted.

It is worth mentioning that Turkey claims a neutral position regarding the war in Ukraine. Ankara supports Ukraine's territorial integrity but has not severed ties with Russia.

Furthermore, Turkey's Foreign Minister has repeatedly called for negotiations and stated the need to seek "alternatives" to end the war.

Syria situation

At the end of the year, Syrian rebels toppled Bashar al-Assad's regime. The former dictator fled to Russia.

Following the fall of Assad's regime, Ukraine expressed its readiness to restore diplomatic relations with Syria. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently stated that Ukraine would assist in stabilizing the situation in Syria and provide grain to the Syrian people.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha visited Syria in December. In fact, Ukraine was one of the first countries to conduct a high-level visit to Syria. For more details, see the RBC-Ukraine article.
