Ukraine and the EU have completed the first stage of screening Ukrainian legislation for compliance with European standards. Preparations for the second phase are underway, citing Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna.

"After the completion of the first stage of screening, a delegation from the European Commission responsible for conducting the screening on the European side arrived in Ukraine to prepare for the new phase of bilateral meetings," she said.

Stefanishyna added that during the first day of consultations, discussions centered on the methods and approaches for the next stage of the assessment of Ukrainian legislation, as well as the expectations from the Ukrainian side.

"I am pleased to congratulate all of us on completing the first stage - more than 30 explanatory sessions within the official screening process. The Ukrainian delegations gained valuable experience and necessary knowledge during these sessions to continue our confident progress toward full membership. I hope today's meeting will allow us to better prepare for the next phase of negotiations," the minister said.

Ukraine's EU accession

In December 2023, the EU officially supported the opening of negotiations with Ukraine regarding accession. However, Ukraine continues to carry out the "homework" required for EU membership.

One of the preparation stages for accession is the screening of Ukrainian legislation for compliance with European law. The screening process began on January 17, 2024.
