Ukraine's drone forces surge: Top units revealed by army chief

In July, Ukrainian unmanned systems hit more than 23,000 enemy targets, including more than 5,000 Russians. FPV drones and night bombers played the main role, according to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi.
Syrskyi noted that unmanned systems have become an integral part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and, in cooperation with infantry and artillery, the key to success in deterring the enemy.
He added that he held a monthly meeting on the development of the capabilities of the Unmanned Systems Forces.
Last month, 23,400 enemy targets were hit by drones. Most of them were hit by FPV drones and night bombers, whose effectiveness is increasing.
"The main priority is to destroy enemy personnel. In July, the Air Force eliminated 5,134 occupants. The leaders in this combat work are Magyar's Birds, the Phoenix and Achilles units of the BGSU," noted Syrskyi.
Development of unmanned systems in Ukraine
The formation of robotic ground systems units is, according to Syrskyi, the next step in the development of unmanned systems capabilities. In this direction, Ukraine will develop both the logistics and combat components.
Perhaps the most important part of such meetings is the exchange of experience between units. This time, the commanders of the Unmanned Systems Forces units reported on their non-standard solutions and achievements:
- 59th,
- 429th Achilles,
- Phoenix unit
- State Border Guard Service.
There was also a report on the implementation of the MiddleStrike strike drone project (range 50-120 km) and promising, innovative projects of unmanned systems under development.
"I listened to suggestions and requests, identified tasks to build the capabilities of the unmanned component of the Armed Forces. I wish the soldiers success in their combat work, and this success should be manifested primarily in saving the lives of our soldiers," he added.
Unmanned Systems Forces in Ukraine
The commander of the USF unit, Robert 'Magyar Brovdi, reported that in July, units of the Unmanned Systems Forces grouping hit an average of 756 targets daily, including 166 enemy personnel.
Even though the number of the group is only 2% of the total number of the Armed Forces, every third Russian was destroyed by these units.
The Unmanned Systems Forces were created in Ukraine by a decree of the President of Ukraine on February 6, 2024. On June 25, 2024, the USF became a separate branch of the Armed Forces.
