The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS) has shared some heartbreaking statistics, revealing how many rescuers have been killed or injured since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. DSNS spokesperson Oleksandr Khorunzhyi provided these numbers at the briefing.

How many rescuers have been killed or injured by Russian aggression

According to Khorunzhyi, "our country is fighting a full-scale war against a treacherous aggressor without principles," as Russia "targets rescuers", unarmed individuals who help others, risking their lives without hesitation.

The DSNS spokesperson also shared the sad statistics of losses among rescuers. Since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine:

  • 105 people have been killed
  • 502 DSNS employees have been injured

The State Emergency Service representative emphasized that there is always a high risk in rescuers' work despite all safety measures.

"Therefore, of course, we use algorithms for aerial reconnaissance and the distribution of personnel, especially during air raids," he said.

At the same time, Khorunzhyi reminded that "during war, there is no 100% guarantee of protection for people."

"Because we are engaged in saving lives, where risks are always present," he concluded.

On the night of Friday, June 6, 2025, Russia carried out another combined strike on Kyiv.

As a result of the attack, three rescuers were killed while helping victims during the shelling. Another 14 were injured.

The farewell ceremony for the fallen DSNS employees – Pavlo Yezgor, Danylo Skadin, and Andrii Reminnyi – took place in Kyiv on June 9.
