Ukraine's 2025 university rankings: Top 10 schools shaping the future of education

The new ranking of Ukrainian universities, "TOP-200 Ukraine 2025," has been published. The list includes the country's leading universities assessed based on the quality of education, science, innovation, and international recognition. This ranking has been compiled for the ninth consecutive year, reports Osvita.ua.
Top universities of 2025
The ranking is led by Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The top ten also includes two other universities from the capital, two from Lviv, two from Kharkiv, and one each from Sumy, Odesa, and Ivano-Frankivsk.
It's worth noting that Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv regularly ranks among the best universities in the country. However, last year in the "TOP-200 Ukraine," it placed second, behind the National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute." This year, it holds the third position.

How the ranking was compiled
The "TOP-200 Ukraine 2025" ranking is compiled by the International Projects Center "Euroosvita" in collaboration with an international group of experts from the IREG Observatory on Academic Ranking and Excellence.
During the compilation of this year's "TOP-200 Ukraine 2025," the ranking creators took into account the current trends in the transformation of higher education amid profound changes caused by both structural reforms and large-scale losses due to the full-scale war.
The evaluation process considered the outcomes of the IREG 2024 international conference and the Berlin Principles, approved during the second IREG meeting. Special attention was given to the impact of artificial intelligence on scientific activities, innovation, and the social impact of universities.
The compilers note that AI is already significantly changing the higher education system—from learning and research to evaluation methods, and even the very logic of creating academic rankings.
In 2025, universities were analyzed based on six international and four national criteria. For the first time, SCImago Institutions Rankings data was used instead of Webometrics indicators.
