In Ukraine, during the recent repatriation of the bodies of the dead, experts found two bodies with personal military badges of the Russian armed forces, according to the National Police of Ukraine.

The numbers of the tokens:

  • Badge No. AB 846408
  • Badge No. AB 449638

The Ukrainian side has conducted the necessary checks, inspections, and examinations. In compliance with humanitarian principles and repatriation agreements, the Ukrainian side returned the two bodies to the Russian side under the official procedure.

"At present, we have no confirmation that the Russian side has duly notified the relatives of these victims that the bodies have been returned to Russian territory. Therefore, we appeal directly to the families of the Russian servicemen who recognized the above-mentioned military badge numbers and have not yet received the body of their loved one," the police said.

The police took DNA samples before handing over the bodies.

"If you have reason to believe that one of the victims is your relative, we advise you to immediately contact the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP)," the National Police added.

Return of the bodies of the fallen

Agreements on a large-scale exchange of the bodies of fallen defenders were reached on June 2 during the second round of talks between Ukraine and Russia in Istanbul. The parties agreed on a 6,000-for-6,000 format.

The first stage of the exchange took place on June 11 - Ukraine returned the bodies of 1,212 fallen soldiers. These are the dead in the east, south, and Kursk region.

Another wave of repatriations took place on June 13, when the bodies of 1,200 people, most of them military personnel, were returned to Ukraine.

The bodies of another 1,200 dead citizens were returned to Ukraine on Sunday, June 15. This is the fourth stage of repatriation measures after the talks in Istanbul.

Later, it became known that three bodies of Russian soldiers had already been returned to Russia. The aggressor handed them over to Ukraine during the repatriation in 2025. The bodies are handed over to the Russians only after one hundred percent confirmation of the match. So, three bodies were returned to Russia because they were a complete match.
