The demands of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to halt EU financial assistance to Ukraine are entirely expected, said Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Taras Kachka, according to Interfax-Ukraine.

Kachka was asked whether Orbán's new statements — that Hungary does not support providing any further financial assistance to Ukraine in any form — would harm Ukraine.

"Hungary’s position has not changed; discussions are ongoing. We have dialogue and consistent work with the European Union," he replied.

As for progress on the reparations loan issue, the Deputy Prime Minister noted that the European Commission has already presented its options.

"This creates room before the European Council meeting to reach a single decision that will make it possible to approve the regulation on allocating funds for the reparations loan," Kachka added.

Orbán’s demand

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is demanding that the European Union support the American peace plan to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.

He even sent a provocative letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

At the same time, the Hungarian Prime Minister is openly threatening to block all European assistance to Ukraine.

He stated that Hungary does not support the European Union providing any further financial assistance to Ukraine in any form and does not agree to the adoption of such a decision on behalf of and within the EU.

European officials, commenting on Orbán’s letter, made it clear that the EU policy will not change despite Budapest's controversial statements.
