Ukraine repels massive Russian drone attack: Details
Overnight on January 19, Russian forces launched 61 drones at Ukraine from three directions. Ukrainian air defense intercepted the majority of them, according to the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"On the night of January 19, the enemy attacked with 61 strike UAVs of the 'Shahed' type and various decoy drones from the directions of Millerovo, Bryansk, and Oryol," the military stated.
How Air Defense responded
The aerial assault was countered by aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare systems, and mobile fire teams of the Air Forces and Defense Forces of Ukraine.
"As of 09:00, 43 strike UAVs of the 'Shahed' type and other drones have been confirmed destroyed," the military reported.
Air defense operations took place in the Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Dnipropetrovsk, and Mykolaiv regions.
Additionally, 15 enemy decoy drones were lost from radar tracking, while one remains airborne, and combat operations are ongoing.
Russian strikes on Ukraine
Air raid alarms were declared across Ukraine around 10:00 PM Kyiv time on Saturday, January 18, due to the threat of ballistic missile attacks. Later, the threat expanded to include drone strikes.
By midnight on Sunday, January 19, air defense was active in the Kyiv region in response to drone attacks, with explosions reported in Kyiv itself. Air defense systems in the Kyiv region continued their operations into the morning.
