Ukraine has received a batch of M577 command and control vehicles from Lithuania. The armored vehicles arrived in Ukraine yesterday, April 5, reports the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense.

"Last night, a new shipment of Lithuanian military support reached Ukraine: we handed over M577 armored vehicles," the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense said on its Twitter page.

The Lithuanian ministry did not specify how many command and control vehicles arrived in Ukraine. However, the photo posted on Twitter shows at least three armored vehicles.

What is known about M577

The M577 is a command and staff vehicle that was created on the basis of the M113 armored personnel carrier. It is designed to serve as a battalion-level mobile command post. However, upgraded versions of the M577 can operate German PzH 2000 self-propelled guns, which are already in service with the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Lithuania has previously transferred M577s to Ukraine. In total, Lithuania has 168 German M577 armored personnel carriers, which it purchased in 2016. It is not disclosed how many have already been given to Ukraine.

Lithuania's assistance to Ukraine

Lithuania has been one of Ukraine's most active allies since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion. It provides military assistance to our defenders and supports our country's membership in the European Union and NATO.

In January, Lithuania approved a €200 million long-term assistance package for Ukraine. This was announced by President Gitanas Nausėda during his visit to Kyiv.

In early April, Lithuania announced plans to purchase nearly 3,000 FPV drones for the Ukrainian army. The Lithuanian budget will allocate 2 million euros for this purpose.

In addition, Ukraine and Lithuania plan to sign an agreement on security guarantees. In early April, the Ukrainian and Lithuanian delegations met to determine the schedule for preparing the agreement.
