Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andriy Sybiha, said that Ukraine does not recognize Nicolás Maduro as the president of Venezuela. The European Union holds the same position.

He stated that Ukraine has aligned itself with the EU's position regarding the so-called "inauguration" of Nicolás Maduro as president of Venezuela. Sybiha described it as a falsification.

"The choice of the Venezuelan people was stolen. We will continue to support the people of Venezuela and insist that their civic rights and freedoms must be respected," the Foreign Minister said.

Earlier, the EU's chief diplomat, Kaja Kallas, stated that the European Union supports the Venezuelan people in their fight to protect democracy.

"Maduro lacks all democratic legitimacy. New EU sanctions target individuals undermining democracy and human rights. We will continue to work with all Venezuelans for a democratic solution to the crisis," she wrote on X.

Maduro reclaims the presidency of Venezuela

Recently, Venezuela held a so-called "inauguration ceremony" for the president. The winner of the summer elections was once again declared to be Nicolás Maduro.

The opposition does not recognize Maduro's victory and believes the true winner was opposition candidate Edmundo González. González left the country after the elections but announced that he would take the oath of office in Caracas on January 10.

Following Maduro's "inauguration," the United States imposed sanctions on Venezuelan officials.
