Ukraine's Navy after strike on Slavyanin ferry: It was an important element of Russian logistics
The Slavyanin rail ferry was an important element in Russian logistics. Its destruction was not accidental, Dmytro Pletenchuk, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, told Suspilne.
According to the spokesman, there were direct hits on the Russian ferry Slavyanin in the port of Kavkaz.
The ferry could accommodate 50 conventional tanks. The Russians took it off the international route and put it on the domestic one. They tried to connect the Russian railroad with the Ukrainian railroad in the occupied territories in this way.
“Accordingly, it performed this function, overloading more than 3/4 of the military's logistics,” Pletenchuk said.
Previously, Slavyanin ran from the port of Kavkaz to Varna in Bulgaria. This port is the second largest in the Azov-Black Sea region and the fourth largest in Russia.
The Navy spokesman stressed that the ferry was an important element of the Russian military logistics. It supported Russian troops in southern Ukraine.
“Its destruction was not accidental. Besides, after this defeat, they realized that this was no joke. As for the fact that Ukraine controls the Azov Sea with fire: this was once said by the commander of the Ukrainian Navy, but the Russians did not believe it. But after this attack, they realized that it is true,” Pletenchuk added.
Attack on the ferry
On July 23, the Ukrainian forces attacked the Slavyanin ferry in the Kavkaz port in the Krasnodar region of Russia. The General Staff said that the ferry was heavily damaged.
This was the last Russian rail ferry in the region. It was used for military purposes to transport railroad cars, vehicles, and containers.
The Navy spokesman noted that after the attack, Russia withdrew all warships from the Azov Sea.
