Ukraine may receive NASAMS battery from Canada by end of year - Zelenskyy
Canada may provide Ukraine with the promised NASAMS air defense system by the end of the year, which was ordered back in 2023, citing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The head of the Ukrainian state shared that he had a phone conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. In particular, the Canadian leader confirmed support for Ukraine's victory plan.
The parties also discussed further cooperation to organize a second peace summit and involve countries from the Global South in such efforts.
"Moreover, the Prime Minister reported on the dispatch of the first NASAMS air defense system ordered by Canada for Ukraine. We expect to receive it by the end of this year," Zelenskyy wrote.
He added that the negotiations also covered further defense support for Ukraine and the situation on the battlefield, including the involvement of North Korean soldiers in the war. Cooperation was also coordinated within the framework of Canada’s G7 presidency.
NASAMS for Ukraine
In 2023, Canada joined the US initiative to order NASAMS air defense systems for Ukraine.
However, later, the Kongsberg company, which is involved in the production of the systems, stated that Canada had not signed a contract with them, leading to delays in production.
At the beginning of September this year, Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair announced that Canada would transfer NASAMS to Ukraine in early 2025.
