Ukraine in Washington seeks US permission to target Russian airfields - Ukrainian Foreign Minister
Ukraine is working in Washington to obtain US permission to use long-range weapons to strike military airfields in Russia, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba.
"We will work on another decision that is not directly dependent on NATO but depends on the United States. This will be discussed during contacts with American officials and our other closest partners," Kuleba said.
He added that this involves permission to use long-range US weapons on military airfields in Russia.
"We need to ruthlessly destroy all military targets that are in any way connected to the bombings and missile strikes on Ukraine," the Minister noted.
Strikes on Russian territory
At the end of May, the White House gave Ukraine the green light for strikes on Russian military targets, but with certain limitations.
Currently, the US does not permit deep strikes on Russian territory, but Ukraine can attack Russian troops, positions, and missile launchers along its border.
Recently, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba stated that eventually, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive permission to strike bombers at Russian airfields using Western weapons.
Meanwhile, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) noted that Western countries should allow Ukraine to attack military targets in Russia with Western weapons. This could disrupt Russia's large-scale offensive operations.
