Ukraine will face a rather difficult situation from mid-May to early June. However, it will not be catastrophic, according to Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine.

"We will face a rather difficult situation soon, according to our assessment. But it is not catastrophic, and this should also be understood. Armageddon is not going to happen, as many people are starting to say. But there will be problems starting in mid-May," says the DIU chief.

Answering the interviewer's question, Budanov explains that he was talking about "everything," not just the frontline or the domestic political situation. According to the DIU chief, Russia will resort to a comprehensive approach against Ukraine, but he did not disclose the details of this issue.

"It is a comprehensive approach because the Russians will use a comprehensive approach. They are conducting a comprehensive operation. We will not talk about it for a long time, but it will be a difficult period. Mid-May, early June," Budanov explains.

Situation at front

As the President of Ukraine said earlier, the hottest areas of the frontline today are:

  • Chasiv Yar;
  • Pokrovsk and Kurakhove in Donetsk region;
  • Kupiansk in Kharkiv region.

He noted that Ukraine has a chance to seize the initiative on the battlefield, but this requires support from the United States in the form of weapons.

In particular, Zelenskyy said that the Russian troops plan to occupy Chasiv Yar by May 9. If Russia can be repelled, this will help to break their plans for a full-scale counteroffensive in June.
