Ukraine disrupts Russian attacks and advances in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia – ISW

Over the past several days, Ukraine's Defense Forces have not only disrupted several Russian offensive operations but have also advanced along the front line in several areas, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
On September 27 and 28, Russian forces continued offensive operations in the Kupiansk direction but failed to advance. Ukrainian counterattacks southeast of Kupiansk prevented them from making progress. Ukrainian forces are also effectively intercepting various types of Russian drones in the area.
Analysts noted that Russian troops used Ukrainian civilians as human shields while retreating toward a gas pipeline north of Kupiansk. ISW recalled that using civilians in this way violates international humanitarian law.
Russian attacks near Borova and Lyman
Russian forces also conducted offensive operations in the Borova direction on September 27 and 28 but made no progress.
In the Lyman tactical area, Russian forces continued assault operations but were unable to advance due to Ukrainian counterattacks.
East of Sloviansk, Russian forces attacked toward Mykolaivka. According to analysts, Ukrainian counterattacks prevented Russian forces from breaking through.
Russian military bloggers are now acknowledging the presence of Ukrainian troops in the Chasiv Yar area.
On September 27, a Kremlin-linked Russian military blogger claimed that Ukrainian forces continued to enter the city through Mykolaivka. According to the blogger, Mykolaivka itself remains a "gray zone."
Moreover, Ukrainian forces recently advanced southwest of Chasiv Yar. Analysts believe Russian forces likely do not have fully consolidated positions in Mykolaivka and Podilske.
The report also says Ukrainian forces likely pushed Russian reconnaissance groups out of positions southwest of Druzhkivka. Russian military bloggers reported a series of successful Ukrainian counterattacks.
According to the bloggers, these Ukrainian actions could interfere with Russian attempts to encircle Druzhkivka from the southwest.
Ukrainian forces advance near Orikhiv
Analysts also noted that Ukrainian forces recently advanced southeast of Orikhiv. This is supported by geolocated footage published on September 27.
The footage shows a Russian strike on Ukrainian positions south of Mala Tokmachka, which may indicate a recent Ukrainian advance in the area.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported how Ukrainian forces turned Soviet-era BTR-60 armored personnel carriers into giant kamikaze drones.
It was also reported that Ukrainian troops liberated another village in the Donetsk region from Russian occupation.
