Ukraine is ready to help Moldova address energy problems that arose in 2025. In particular, the option of coal supplies is being considered, RBC-Ukraine reports, referring to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.

"As President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, Ukraine is ready to help Moldova. We have worked on the issue of possible assistance. Necessary measures to assist our neighbors and partners will be taken upon the request of Moldovan colleagues," said the Ministry of Energy in response to RBC-Ukraine's inquiry.

The Ministry of Energy did not specify the exact form of assistance, but the possibility of coal supplies is being considered, according to the sources.

Moldova had previously requested coal to be used at the Moldova

state district power plant. However, this was not possible since the station requires anthracite, which is extracted from the Donbas basin, and such coal is not available in Ukraine.

Now, as the reports indicate, using a coal mix is considered.

Energy crisis

In early January, the Russian-occupied region of Moldova, Transnistria, experienced heating and hot water outages due to Russia's refusal to supply gas. This gas was used for electricity generation at the Moldova state district power plant, which supplied electricity to Chișinău.

However, in mid-January, Moscow announced plans to purchase gas from Europe to supply to Transnistria.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is ready to help Moldova resolve the energy crisis in Transnistria. "We are ready to assist Moldova, including with coal. It is very important to maintain stability and provide everyone in Moldova with conditions to live peacefully and work for their country, to overcome poverty, for our joint movement towards the European Union," Zelenskyy stated.
