Ukraine at US Open 2024: Who Ukrainian women play in qualifying
Four Ukrainian tennis players, led by Daria Snigur, have learned who their first opponents will be in the qualifying rounds of the US Open, citing the official tournament website.
The 22-year-old Ukrainian will face neutral Russian Valeria Savinykh in the first round. Savinykh is ranked 239th in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings and has never faced Snigur before.
Meanwhile, Yuliia Starodubtseva will take on the half-Russian Victoria Jiménez Kasintseva, who plays under the Andorran flag, in the quarterfinals of the qualifiers. Katarina Zavatska will face Japan’s Ena Shibahara, and Anastasiia Soboleva will go up against Swedish player Mirjam Björklund.

Earlier, Ukraine’s top player, Marta Kostyuk, along with five other Ukrainian tennis players, secured their spots in the main draw of the tournament. They will begin competing in the 1/64 finals of the US Open 2024, with the first round set to start on August 26.
About US Open 2024
The tournament will run until September 8, with a total prize pool of $75 million.
American star Coco Gauff, who won the women’s singles title last year, will defend her title. Last year, she defeated Belarus’s Aryna Sabalenka in three sets (2-6, 6-3, 6-2).
The best performance by a Ukrainian player last year was by Elina Svitolina, who reached the third round. The former world No. 3 lost to American Jessica Pegula in that round.
Notably, Kostyuk recently climbed into the top six of Ukrainian tennis players in terms of wins at WTA 1000 tournaments.
