Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Finnish President Alexander Stubb held a phone conversation. One of the discussion topics was the peace talks between Kyiv and Washington, according to the Ukrainian President’s post.

Zelenskyy and Stubb updated each other on contacts with partners. According to Zelenskyy, he is currently preparing for meetings and negotiations in the United States.

"As of today, our teams – the Ukrainian and American negotiating teams – have made significant progress. Much has been accomplished in drafting the necessary security guarantees, the recovery and economic development plan, as well as the 20‑point framework document," the Ukrainian President noted.

He added that, together with Stubb, he believes the intensive work truly helps, and no time should be wasted.

Zelenskyy emphasized that even now, while many countries and leaders celebrate Christmas and prepare for the New Year, maximum efforts continue to protect lives and advance diplomacy.

"We are making every effort to achieve results, and this is precisely our approach – a shared success is needed for Ukraine and all of Europe, for the United States and President Trump, for all our partners worldwide, and for global peace," he said.

Ukraine-US peace talks

Recently, Ukraine and the US have continued active work on a peace plan. As a result of the dialogue, the document has been reduced from 28 points to 20 points.

The most recent talks between the two countries took place yesterday, December 25. President Zelenskyy spoke by phone with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and US President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner. According to Zelenskyy, ideas for long-term peace in Ukraine were discussed.

Also, this week, Zelenskyy revealed the full content of the peace plan. The most difficult issue remains territorial arrangements—the relevant point has not yet been fully agreed. Washington has proposed, as a compromise, a free economic zone in the Donetsk region.
