UK to provide $11 million in humanitarian funding to Ukraine
The United Kingdom will provide Ukraine with £8.5 million ($10.78 million) in humanitarian aid to the Red Cross Movement and the Ukrainian Humanitarian Fund, reports the British Foreign Ministry.
The additional funding will strengthen London's ongoing support, as well as the work of the Red Cross Movement and the Ukrainian Humanitarian Fund.
In 2024, more than 14.6 million people - about 40% of the population of Ukraine - will need humanitarian assistance. Millions are currently homeless, without proper access to water, food, and electricity.
More than £6 million ($7.61 million) will be used to support the Red Cross' neutral and impartial work, strengthen existing emergency response projects, and support the most vulnerable people in Ukraine.
An additional £2.5 million ($3.17 million) will go to the Ukrainian Humanitarian Fund, part of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
"Ukrainians are bravely defending their land against Russia’s brutal invasion, but the past two years of war have had a tragic impact on millions of people across Ukraine. Families have been separated, towns and villages decimated, and vital civilian infrastructure destroyed. The UK stands with Ukraine, and is committed to supporting the most vulnerable Ukrainians living through the horrors of this war," said Foreign Secretary David Cameron.
Help from Britain
In January, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced the largest aid package to Ukraine since the beginning of the war.
And recently, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron said that the Russian Federation's economy is 25 times weaker than that of Ukraine and its allies. It is necessary to make this difference more tangible.
Yesterday, on February 23, Britain announced a $310 million munitions package for Ukraine.
